Parkson Credit continues its commitment to a sustainable future through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. In a significant step towards animal welfare, Parkson Credit has sponsored two Malayan Tapirs at Zoo Negara in collaboration with its collective motorcycle dealers. This reflects the Company's dedication to conservation efforts and the preservation of wildlife.
The Malayan Tapir (Tapirus indicus), also known as the Asian Tapir or Black-and-White Tapir, has been listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List since 2008, as the population is estimated to comprise fewer than 2,500 mature individuals.
In addition, habitat fragmentation in peninsular Malaysia caused displacement of 142 Malayan tapirs between 2006 and 2010. Some were rescued and relocated. Between 2015 and 2020, there were 92 Malayan tapirs end up as roadkill.
The sponsorship from Parkson Credit together with its collective dealers will safeguard the well-being of these Malayan Tapir for the year 2024, this includes the maintenance, feeding expenses, upkeep and conservation. This initiative aligns well with the Company's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts as supporting animal welfare is increasingly recognized as a key contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Moving forward, Parkson Credit aims to bring awareness to organizations and individuals to involve in Zoo Negara’s mission to provide care and conservation for wildlife in order to secure a legacy for future generations.
